miscellanea
6.4
between the gentle diatonic lines of palestrina’s pope marcellus, tranquility emerges from polyphony. voices transcend one another by a lone syllable, emitting clarity like a bright star in a summer night sky. steadily and firmly, a quest for peace sets out in the absence of dissonance. the bearings of its religious meanings are lost in time. a clear athenian wisdom rings: the human is divine.

in quant en moy
the tenor voice sings:
thanks
to
love
and
extraordinary
beauty
fearing
feigning
are what
i am
consumed by…

when you see me playing verdi’s la traviata repeatedly…
you know that i am substituting alcohol with drinking songs…

we went on a hike at appleton farm this afternoon. midway through our adventure, storm clouds started to gather above our heads and descend briskly as if they were eager to kiss the maple tops. soon the sky began to whistle and rain slid down gently. we took a safe spot under a tree while the branches danced along with the wind and our hair waved in the flying water. the image of the cabin afar blurred into the background. i mistook it as a lighthouse.

a soul, if exists, must perch
in adagio con variazioni as a
fragment of respighi’s lyrical
verse or it must exist as an
abstract contrapuntal, bearing
concreteness in franck’s melodic
terse. it must uphold itself to be
a post romanticist, an adamant
follower of saint-saëns and fauré.
truth is apparently shown: subtle
syncopation of human passion
is what defines a beautiful soul.
